Cynthia L. Best is the managing attorney at Best Law Firm and a mediator at Best Mediation Services. She has over 20 years of legal experience and a particular passion for family law. She is extremely sensitive to the emotional nature of this type of work and welcomes the opportunity to hear each party's story. Her experience includes mediations, jury and bench trials, and arbitrations. Cindy was also a Judge Pro Tem in Maricopa County in 2007 and 2008.
Cindy has conducted over 50 trials in family law matters, child custody, child support, spousal maintenance, various issues of division of community businesses and assets, domestic violence, enforcement or modification of child support and spousal maintenance, in loco parentis parenting time for domestic partners, grandparent visitation, and parental relocation. Prior to practicing in the area of family law, Cindy was engaged primarily in civil litigation, negotiating and settling over 500 civil cases while working at an insurance company and as an insurance defense litigator. Her extensive experience in both civil and family law litigation has made her successful in the courtroom as a litigator, but also out of the courtroom as a negotiator.
Cindy has seen, first-hand, how family law matters present a unique situation in which often times even the "winning" party does not feel that he or she has accomplished "victory." As a parent and a former teacher, Cindy recognizes that family matters affect us at the root of daily lives. Trials allow parties to have their day in court and tell their story. The drawn-out litigation process, however, often causes more emotional harm and financial burden than it is worth. Her extensive trial experience offers parties neutral, first-hand knowledge on the risks of litigation, as well as the costs and benefits of litigating those issues.
Cindy was admitted to practice law in Arizona in 1993 and is admitted in the U.S. District Court of Arizona. Cindy attended law school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated in 1988. She received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Tennessee in 1976 and 1978 respectively. Cindy enjoys golf, sailing, skiing, traveling, and reading.
